[VACC Richmond] Bike route on Westminster Highway
Marion Orser <mariono@...>
I too have concerns re that path, but different ones. There
are 19 lanes between #6 an #7 road. The path is with in feet of Westminster Hwy.,
making every crossings difficult to judge traffic. I cycle frequently on the
access road between # 6 Road and Sidaway. I find in either direction -
judging the traffic is almost impossible. So 19 of those? Note CNP grants-

(I'd swear there's a fire hydrant in the middle of the path at one point...)

The best person I can see answering these questions is Victor Wei at
the City of Richmond -- 604-276-4131 -- vwei@...
Also, concerns may be directed to Richmond's equivilent of a bicycle
advisory committee:
Larry Pamer
Chair
Citizens Cycling Committee
City of Richmond
6911 No. 3 Road
Richmond, BC V6Y 2C1
Cheers,
Ken.

The plans for the bike route note:
- install stamped asphalt strips on bike path to serve as advance
warning of driveways (these will be a strip of asphalt that is a
different colour and texture (i.e. stamped), but still level with
the path surface, to alert riders to upcoming driveways)
- trim existing hedges to provide vertical clearance (i.e. clear
sightlines) to pathway
- where required, relocation of existing fences to property line (will
also improve sightlines)
- minimum of 2.0-m gravel shoulder between roadway & pathway to allow
for stranded vehicles
concern. If you are referring to the crossing of No. 6 Road or
Sidaway, I agree that they can be difficult. That's why I cycle
along the shoulder of Westminster Highway in that section, instead.
That is also why the Westminster Highway route will be signed to use
the shoulder in preference to the access road.
Thanks for your comments, I hope this helps.
